A Minnesota Memorial for the 20th Anniversary of September 11th, 2001

The Wayzata Conservancy has partnered with the City of Wayzata to create a memorial honoring the 20th anniversary of the 9/11/2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

The memorial will be located among a grove of nine birch trees in the recently completed lakeside plaza park, which is part of the city’s Panoway on Wayzata Bay initiative.

The initial inspiration for a 9/11 memorial in Wayzata dates back to 2011, around the time of the 10-year anniversary. The City of Wayzata was given several small pieces of the fallen World Trade Center buildings by the Aamoth family of Wayzata, whose 32-year-old son Gordy Aamoth Jr. died in the attacks.

An Interview with the Commanding Officer of USS Minneapolis Saint Paul (LCS 21) Cmdr. Alfonza White

An Interview with the Commanding Officer of USS Minneapolis Saint Paul (LCS 21) Cmdr. Alfonza White

What are your thoughts on being the commanding officer of a ship named for the Twin Cities?

Cmdr. White: “Honestly, I feel incredibly fortunate and blessed. It’s an honor to serve as the commanding officer of any US Navy warship, but I couldn’t ask for a finer ship than the future USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Much like the Twin cities, LCS ships are manned by two crews. We’ve made it our mantra that both crews will train together, grow together and support each other in every regard to ensure we ultimately achieve operational success. Twin Cities, twin crews.”

Navy Calls Freedom LCS Propulsion Problem Class-Wide Defect, Won’t Take New Ships Until Fixed

Navy Calls Freedom LCS Propulsion Problem Class-Wide Defect, Won’t Take New Ships Until Fixed

The Navy has determined a flaw in the Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship’s combining gear, a complicated gearing mechanism that links the engines of the ship, is an engineering defect that shipbuilder Lockheed Martin now has to fix, USNI News has learned.

Over the last year, the Navy has linked propulsion failures in USS Detroit (LCS-7) and USS Little Rock (LCS-9) to a latent engineering defect in the bearings system that links the ship’s Rolls Royce MT30 gas turbines and the ship’s Colt-Pielstick diesel engines, which power the main drive shaft to achieve the ship’s 40-knot top speed.

Naval Sea Cadets Need Winter Parkas

Naval Sea Cadets Need Winter Parkas

Brrr!!!!   When it is cold outside, we all reach for our warm jacket or parka to keep us warm.  Minnesota’s Naval Sea Cadets don’t have those warm parkas, so the Minnesota Navy League Council is issuing an urgent all hands-on deck to our Minnesota Council members to help them out.

The Minnesota Navy League supports four United States Navy Sea Cadet Corps units across the state of Minnesota, Twin Ports Division – Duluth; Polaris Battalion – Cambridge; Twin Cities Squadron – Arden Hills, and Lake Agassiz Division – Grand Forks.
