On October 9, 2020 William L. James, President of the Minnesota Council of the Navy League spoke at the lighting of the I35W bridge in honor of the Navy’s 245th birthday. Mr. James said “We are doing various tributes around the city to highlight the men and women and sailors who stand at the forefront of protecting our country.” The bridge was lit the traditional Navy Blue and Gold.
Additionally, on October 13, 2020, the Highway 7 and Louisiana Avenue bridge in St. Louis Park shined blue to mark the 245th anniversary of the Navy which was established on Oct. 13, 1775, by the Continental Congress. The City of St. Louis Park issued a proclamation recognizing the birthday of the United States Navy. Additionally, the St. Louis Park City Council also recognized the role of the Navy League of the United States, Minnesota Council for their role in supporting the United States Navy, the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine Services through national and local programs.
