NAVY ANNOUNCES COMMISSIONING DATE FOR USS MINNEAPOLIS SAINT PAUL

MINNEAPOLIS.  The Minnesota Navy League Council is thrilled to announce that the Navy has officially approved May 21, 2022 as the commissioning date of USS Minneapolis Saint Paul (LCS 21) in the port of Duluth.  The commissioning will occur at 10:00 CDT at the Port of Duluth.

“We have worked diligently over the past two years to support the commissioning of the ship and are excited to finally be able to see this work come to fruition,” said LCS Commissioning Chair Brian Skon.  “It will be an exciting day for the state and the city as this is the first time a Navy ship has been commissioned in the state.”  The Navy League is planning a series of events during the week for the ship, the crew and the public.

Members of the public who wish to be considered for tickets to the ceremony should request tickets at the Minnesota Navy League website at: https://navyleaguemn.org/commissioning-ticket-reservations

Due to large gathering restrictions and concerns related to the pandemic, attendance at the commissioning may be limited and will require proof of vaccination.  To accommodate this, the event will also be livestreamed by the Navy to allow friends, families and supporters to attend virtually.  The Navy League will provide details when a venue has been arranged for the livestream.  To receive the livestream link and additional information on the ceremony, attendess must fill out a ticket request form.

The Navy will mail ticket requestors a commissioning ceremony invitation with a response card.  The response card will have an option for additional ceremony tickets, names of the guests for each ticket and any other information required for security purposes.  This response card must be returned to Navy in order to activate commissioning ceremony tickets. There is no cost to attend the commissioning event.

The USS Minneapolis Commissioning Committee is a project of the Minnesota Navy League, a 501c3 non-profit registered with the State of Minnesota.    For more information on the USS Minneapolis Saint Paul (LCS -21) or to donate to this effort, visit www.lcs21.org.
