Namesake Cities

The USS Minneapolis Saint Paul (LCS 21) is named for the Minnesota Twin Cities.  It is the second ship to bear the name of the Twin Cities.  The first was a Los Angeles class submarine which was commissioned on 10 March 1984.  The ship was decommissioned in August 2008 after more than 24 years of service.

Minneapolis–Saint Paul is a major metropolitan area built around the Mississippi, Minnesota and St. Croix rivers.  The area is commonly known as the Twin Cities after its two largest cities:

MINNEAPOLIS

Minneapolis is the most populous city in the state, and its neighbor to the east Saint Paul, the state capital. The Mississippi River Valley is defined by a series of stone bluffs that line both sides of the river. St. Anthony Falls defined the location of Minneapolis and its prominence as the Mill City.
