Recent events in our community have shown that we have work to do with regard to diversity, inclusion, and social justice.  The United States Navy League, Minnesota Council is proud to present the African American Submarine Experience at 6:00 pm on March 31, 2022 at the Graduate Minneapolis, 615 Washington Avenue Southeast, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

The Minnesota Navy League Council is bringing together a once in a lifetime group of five distinguished African American submariners to talk about their personal and profound journeys as United States Navy submariners.   Each of our speakers have had an African American “First” in their career as they became distinguished leaders in one of the most challenging jobs in the Navy.  The speakers include men and women, officer and enlisted, active duty and retired, from multiple generations whose service span over seventy years covering conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, the Cold War and various conflicts in the Middle East.

 Our speakers include:

• HMCS (SS) retired, James Mosely, (First African American "Nuke", Author of Life under the Microscope as an African American)

• EMCM (SS) retired Early Vincent (one of the first African American nuclear trained Electrician’s Mates)

• VADM (SS) retired, Bruce Grooms (member of the “Centennial Seven”)

• STCM (SS) retired, Ronald Ross (First African American to qualify as an Acoustic Intelligence (ACINT) Specialist and earned the NEC ST-0416)

• Lieutenant (SS) Nsombi Roberts (First African American woman selected for submarine service from NROTC)

Each speaker will talk about their personal and profound journey as African Americans in the United States Navy Submarine Force and how their experiences paved the way toward a more inclusive submarine force and Navy.

Members of the public and media are welcome to attend.  Tickets for this event can be found at Event Brite:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/african-american-submarine-experience-tickets-290528788427.  The Minnesota Navy League Chapter, a 501c3 is a non-profit registered with the State of Minnesota.
